Yet, many people lack fundamental knowledge about diabetes and how to cope with it. This is the purpose of this review article: to acquaint individuals with diabetes, its consequences, and how a life with diabetes can be improved and made easier through physical activity and a healthy lifestyle. Physical activity and a healthy lifestyle play a crucial role in effectively managing diabetes. Through physical activity, cardiovascular and respiratory functions are maintained at healthy levels. Additionally, it helps preserve muscle mass and muscle performance, which can be significant challenges for diabetics, especially in later stages of life. Apart from muscle atrophy, diabetics often face issues with cardiorespiratory functions, which can also be prevented through regular physical activity and good blood sugar control. Blood sugar levels, especially, can pose problems during physical exertion, as they undergo drastic changes during activity. Poorly managed blood sugar levels can lead to various complications and diabetes-related diseases"},{"@xml:lang":"sl","#text":"Sladkorna bolezen ali diabetes je danes vse pogostejša bolezen, a ljudje kljub temu ne vedo osnovnih zadev o njej niti tega, kako se spoprijemati z njo. Namen tega preglednega članka je seznaniti ljudi s sladkorno boleznijo, z njenimi posledicami in s tem, kako lahko življenje bolnika izboljšamo ter olajšamo s telesno aktivnostjo in zdravim življenjskim slogom. Prav ta dva dejavnika sta odločilna pri zdravem spopadanju s sladkorno boleznijo. S telesno aktivnostjo ohranjamo kardiovaskularne in respiratorne funkcije na zdravih ravneh. Poleg tega pa ohranjamo mišično maso in mišično zmogljivost, kar je oboje lahko velika težava diabetikov (predvsem v poznejših življenjskih obdobjih). Poleg mišične atrofije se pri sladkornih bolnikih pogosto pojavljajo srčno-žilna obolenja, ki jih prav tako lahko vsaj delno preprečimo z redno telesno aktivnostjo in dobrim nadzorom sladkorja v krvi. Sladkor v krvi je lahko težava pri fizičnih naporih, saj se med temi drastično spremeni.
