Recent findings regarding molecular evaluation of the causal agent of the ash dieback are presented. Fungus Hymenoscyphus albidus, previously recognized as a sexual stage of the fungus Chalara fraxinea, was according to sequences of three gene regions recognized as a complex of two morphologically similar species: H. albidus and H. pseudoalbidus. The sequence analyses showed that all fungal isolates obtained from symptomatic trees are actually H. pseudoalbidus. In the scope ofresearch projects currently ongoing at the Department of Forest Protection at Slovenian Forestry Institute, a comparison of sequence data of gene regionsEf-alfa in ITS-rDNA revealed that Slovenian isolates are also H. pseudoalbidus. Both species were known in Europe even before the ash dieback outbreak. But it is still an enigma why this until recently harmless endophyteof ash leaves changed into an aggressive pathogen</dc:description><dc:description xml:lang="sl">Prispevek je nadaljevanje serije prispevkov o jesenovem ožigu. Tokrat predstavljamo najnovejša dognanja v povezavi z molekularnim proučevanjem povzročiteljice omenjene bolezni. Gliva Hymenoscyphus albidus, ki je bila določena kot spolna oblika glive Chalara fraxinea, je bila na podlagi nukleotidnih zaporedij treh genskih regij prepoznana kot kompleks dveh morfološko težko lo?ljivih vrst: H. albidus in H. pseudoalbidus. S pomo?jo nukleotidnih zaporedij je bilo ugotovljeno, da so vsi glivni izolati, izolirani iz obolelih dreves, pravzaprav vrsta H. pseudoalbidus. V sklopu raziskav, ki jih opravljamo v Oddelku za varstvo gozdov na Gozdarskem inštitutu Slovenije, smo s primerjavo nukleotidnih zaporedij regij Ef-1? in ITS-rDNA potrdili, da so tudi izolati iz Slovenije vrsta H. pseudoalbidus. Obe vrsti sta v Evropi zabeleženi že pred izbruhom bolezni.
