They dared not sack him from the Academy of Sciences and Arts, which had happened to many other Slovenian intellectuals, but there was simply no future for Plečnik in Ljubljana. Some of Plečnik's sacral works were no better off, as they had been destroyed in the war or shortly after. In any case, these were not the circumstances he was hoping for during the stormy times of the Second World War, when he was contemplating great ideas for post-war Ljubljana. Although in his school Plečnik continued to work on the filling of some of the city's gaps, which undoubtedly included his project for the Glasbena Matica music society building from the end of the forties, one of the last of his accomplished works for Ljubljana between 1950 and 1956 was the renovation of the former Monastery of the Teutonic Order. After his death on 7 January 1957 and the procession at the Žale Cemetery in Ljubljana that followed, Plečnik was forgotten for almost twenty yearsAvtor v prispevku predstavlja umetniško pot arhitekta Jožeta Plečnika po koncu druge svetovne vojne vse do njegove smrti 1957. Niso si ga sicer upali vreči iz Akademije znanosti in umetnosti, kar se je zgodilo mnogim drugim slovenskim razumnikom, vendar pa Ljubljana Plečnika preprosto ni več rabila. Nič bolje se ni godilo nekaterim Plečnikovim sakralnim delom, ki so bila v vojni ali po vojni uničena. Vsekakor to niso bile razmere, na katere je upal, ko je v viharnih časih druge svetovne vojne pripravljal velike zamisli za povojno Ljubljano. Čeprav si je Plečnik v okviru svoje šole še naprej prizadeval za zapolnitev nekaterih mestnih vrzeli, med katere nedvomno sodi tudi njegov projekt Glasbene Matice s konca štiridesetih let, je bila ena zadnjih njegovih uresničenih stvaritev za Ljubljano med leti 1950 in 1956 izpeljana prenova nekdanjega križevniškega samostana.
