A diagnosticapproach using triple assessment of breast cancer has been introduced in many institutions worldwide, including Slovenia. It encompasses clinical examination, mammography and fine needle aspiration biopsy (FNAB), whieh allows the aspiration of cells from the tumor. Malignancy is assessed bylight microscopic evaluarion of FNAB samples. Additional knowledge and experience enable one to further type the tumor, which in combination with itssize, grade and stage helps prognosticate the disease. The FNAB of regionallymph nodes or imaging guided FNAB of parenchymal lesions help define the stage of the disease. Using ancillary methods, above all immunocytochemistry, new pxognostic and prediciive factors can be assesscd, for example hormone receptors, Ki-67, Her-2 and others"},{"@xml:lang":"sl","#text":"Rak dojke je pereč zdravstveni problem, saj je v Sloveniji najpogostejša vrstaraka pri ženskah in tudi najpogostejši vzrok smrti zaradi raka. V diagnostiki raka dojke se je v številnih ustanovah v svetu in tudi pri nas uveljavil t. i. trojni pristop, ki vključuje klinični pregled, rentgensko slikanje dojk (mamografijo) in aspiracijsko biopsijo s tanko iglo (ABTI), pri kateri s pomočjo tanke igle posesamo celice iz tumorja. S svetlobnomikroskopsko preiskavo ustrezno obdelanega vzorca ocenimo, ali gre zamaligen ali benigen tumor. Z dodatnim znanjem in izkušnjami pri določenih rakih opredelimo histološki tip, ki ima v kombinaciji z velikostjo in gradusomtumorja ter stadijem bolezni napovedni pomen za potek bolezni. Z ABTI področnih bezgavk ali s slikovno vodeno ABTI sprememb v parenhimskih organih pa pripomoremo k opredelitvi stadija bolezni.
