Wheelchair users who do not have access to appropriate wheelchair provision are at high risk of developing secondary health conditions and premature death. In 2008, the World Health Organization (WHO) launched the Guidelines for the Provision of Manual Wheelchairs in Less-Resourced Settings. These guidelines are also useful in countries with higher income. The guidelines state the definition of appropriate wheelchair, address what should be taken into consideration while choosing an appropriate wheelchair, and outline eight service steps and the minimum standards that form the basis of a comprehensive wheelchair service. The field of outcome measurement for wheelchair outcomes is still in its infancy even though various assessment tools exist. In Slovenia the system for wheelchair provision mostly follows the WHO guidelines, but since its introduction there have been no formal changes, so we are facing some problems regarding technological improvements and newer views of the users and the professionals. Uporabniki invalidskih vozičkov, ki nimajo dostopa do ustreznega invalidskega vozička, imajo veliko tveganje za razvoj sekundarnih zdravstvenih stanj in prezgodnje smrti. Leta 2008 je Svetovna zdravstvena organizacija (SZO) objavila Smernice o oskrbi z vozički na ročni pogon v okoljih z nižjimi prihodki. Uporabne so tudi v državah z višjimi prihodki. Smernice so prinesle definicijo \"ustreznega invalidskega vozička\", kaj je potrebno upoštevati pri njegovem predpisovanju in opredeljeni so bili potrebni koraki pri oskrbi z ustreznim invalidskim vozičkom. Obstaja več različnih testov za ocenjevanje ustreznosti invalidskega vozička, vendar je to področje pretežno še v povojih. V Sloveniji obstoječi sistem oskrbe z invalidskimi vozički v glavnem ustreza smernicam SZO, vendar pa z napredkom tehnologije in drugačnimi pogledi tako uporabnikov kot stroke prihaja do težav.
