The paper points out how Mullaneys Rhetoric of Space and reading of the city could be seen as one of the exemplary instances of the application of Poetics of Culture conceived by notable new historicists such as, in the first instance, Stephen GreenblattSteven Mullaney, avtor, ki se pogosto omenja v povezavi z novim historizmom, v svoji knjigi z naslovom The Place of the Stage predlaga posebno vrsto analize angleškega renesančnega gledališča, ki jo opiše kot retoriko prostora.
