High, mostly inaccessible energies required to achieve a measurable interaction rate proved to be one of the main reasons why this process has not been experimentally confirmed even almost a century after its theoretical prediction. In 2017 the ATLAS Collaboration reported the first direct measurement of light-by-light scattering. The process and experiment performed to measure it are described in the article</dc:description><dc:description xml:lang="sl">Sipanje svetlobe na svetlobi je proces, ki ga napoveduje kvantna elektrodinamika in je prepovedan v klasični sliki elektromagnetizma. Zaradi velikih, težko dosegljivih energij fotonov, ki so potrebne za dovolj veliko verjetnost, da proces poteče, je sipanje svetlobe na svetlobi še slabo stoletje po teoretičnih napovedih ostalo eksperimentalno nepotrjeno. Leta 2017 pa je kolaboracija ATLAS poročala o prvi neposredni meritvi tega procesa.
