The primary focus is on the most noticeable and most infamous stage of the custom of vengeance, namely, the state or relationship of enmity. In customary conflict resolution, enmity sanctioned the limited used of violence (including retaliatory homicide), with the intention of forcing the offending party to provide satisfaction, settle an injustice or give in to certain demands. This paper is focused on conflicts among nobility"},{"@xml:lang":"sl","#text":"Prispevek na primerih medgospoščinskih sporov na Kranjskem, Štajerskem ter v Istri v 17. stoletju oriše dolgo preživetje maščevanja kot običajnega sistema reševanja sporov in predstavlja njegovo prilagoditev družbenim, političnim ter pravnim spremembam v zgodnjem novem veku. Osrednjo pozornost namenja najopaznejši in najbolj razvpiti stopnji običaja maščevanja, stanju oziroma odnosu sovražnosti. Le-ta je za rešitev spora dopuščal omejeno uporabo nasilja (vključno z ubojem), katere namen je bil od nasprotnika izsiliti zadoščenje, ga prisiliti v poravnavo kake krivice oziroma v pristanek na neke zahteve.
