The female athlete, from puberty through pregnancy and childbirth to menopause and beyond, has to contend with a shifting spectrum of hormonal alterations that have the potential to interfere with optimal performance, especially at the elite level. As a result, we can observe a sharp increase in research in this area. Regardless, we still don’t have a clear answer about the effect of the menstrual cycle on muscle strength, as the methodological quality of most research is poor. The purpose of the present paper was to shed some light on the latest findings from the aforementioned field and to provide practical guidance. Based on current literature, possible alterations to strength and power performance elicited by the menstrual cycle are more likely to occur dur- ing long-term menstrual cycle phase-dependent training interventions, rather than the acute testing of performance. Based on these findings, training with your menstrual cycle makes sense. However, it is necessary to be aware of the individual response of women during the menstrual cycle. Therefore, reasoning based on the “average” pattern of change may be incorrect"},{"@xml:lang":"sl","#text":"Čeprav vsako žensko spremlja menstrualni cikel, se le malo ve o njegovem vplivu na spremembe v mišični moči. Ženska se vse od pubertete oz. menarhe prek nosečnosti in poroda do menopavze in pozneje srečuje z dnevnimi hormonskimi spremembami, ki lahko vplivajo na optimalno zmogljivost, še zlasti ko govorimo o vrhunskem športu. Zato smo v zadnjem času lahko priča skokoviti rasti števila raziskav na tem področju. Kljub temu pa še vedno nimamo jasnega odgovora na vprašanje o vplivu menstrualnega cikla na mišično moč, saj je kakovost metodologije večine raziskav zelo slaba. Namen prispevka je predstaviti najnovejše izsledke z omenjenega področja in ponuditi praktične napotke. Trenutni izsledki raziskav kažejo, da je akutni vpliv menstrualnega cikla na mišično moč minimalen, se pa toliko večji vpliv kaže v daljšem časovnem obdobju, ko govorimo o ciklizaciji vadbe moči. Na podlagi teh ugotovitev je smiselno, da treniramo ob upoštevanju svojega menstrualnega cikla.
