In the non-breeding period, the significance is minor. In the breeding period, three types of bird communitiesinhabit the area along these waters as a result of the changes in the riparian vegetation. The most common in all three communities is Marsh Warbler Acrocephalus palustris. The species that contribute most to the differentiation between the communities are Sylvia spp. and Sedge Warbler Acrocephalus schoenobaenus. The drainage channels are significant for the breeding distribution of twelve species; without them, four species would haveprobably disappeared from the Marshes. Of the greatest significance for the birds are wide drainage channels (the rivers), such as Ljubljanica and Iščica, and ones with abundant marsh vegetation.
