Various industrial by-products are used as precursors, e.g. slag, fly ash and metakaolin. Thus, geopolimeric concrete exhibits favourable properties in terms of its environmental footprint compared to conventional Portland cement concrete. At the same time, as explained in the first part of the paper, geopolimeric concrete also exhibits other favourable properties, the most important among characteristics of hardened concrete being better resistance to various aggressive environmental influences, better resistance to high temperatures, and some advantages in terms of mechanical (?-?) response. The general shape of the ?-? curves is similar to conventional concretes, which leads us to the conclusion that in the design of a geopolymer concrete structure one could resort to procedures from the field of conventional concretes. However, there are also some obvious differences, due to which these procedures will need to be modified to some extent in advance. The second part of the paper offers a brief insight into the need for such a modification"},{"@xml:lang":"sl","#text":"Sodobni geopolimerni betoni so v splošnem kompoziti peska, agregata in geopolimernega veziva, pri čemer je slednje produkt naravne polimerizacije, pri kateri material v obliki aluminosilikata (prekurzor) polimerizira pri interakciji z alkalnim medijem (aktivator). Pri tem se kot prekurzor uporabijo različni stranski produkti industrije, npr. žlindra, elektrofiltrski pepel in metakaolin, zato izkazujejo ti betoni v primerjavi s konvencionalnim betonom iz portland cementa ugodne lastnosti v smislu okoljskega odtisa. Sočasno, kot opiše prvi del članka, pa lahko imajo še druge, boljše lastnosti, pri čemer velja med karakteristikami otrdelega betona posebej omeniti boljšo odpornost proti nekaterim agresivnim vplivom okolja, boljšo odpornost proti visokim temperaturam in določene prednosti v smislu mehanskega (?-?) odziva. Splošna oblika ?-? krivulj je v primerjavi s konvencionalnimi betoni po eni strani podobna, kar nas napelje k zaključku, da bi se tudi pri projektiranju konstrukcij iz geopolimernih betonov lahko zatekli k postopkom s področja konvencionalnih betonov. Vendarle pa obstaja tudi nekaj očitnih razlik, zaradi katerih bo te postopke pred tem verjetno treba vsaj ustrezno modificirati.
