Gre za krščansko pri­poved o zgodovini odrešenja, ki pa je v celoti sestavljena iz tujih – Vergilijevih – verzov. Latinski samostalnik cento pomeni krparijo, krpanko, skrpano oblačilo – in nič čudnega ni, da se je prav ta beseda uveljavila za tip pesmi, ki so v celoti skrpane skupaj iz verzov ali delov verzov drugih pesmi, vzetih iz prvotnega konteksta in preurejenih v novo, zaokro­ženo celoto.
