An urban space is important and named through special language tools for its parts, i. e. through urbanonymes. They function as spatial data sets. Forming a net of points (objects) on a physical surface in regard to other points, they build a relative spatial system. They also function as microtoponymes or a language expression for physical non-living objects in the mentioned urban space (city). They contain information on its localisation and locality in the framework of a city as a whole. The city itself is a topographic and a social space at the same time, with urbanonymes expressing and also forming this space, performing informative, orientative and symbolic role, whereby a crucial role is played by the influence of territoriality. The schematized two-words urbanonymes are the dominant feature. The cultural names after persons are the dominant urban naming pattern since the half of the 19th century, at the same time destabilizing the toponomastic set of namesPrispevek podaja jezikoslovno obravnavo urbanonimov mesta Maribor. Mestni javni prostor je pomemben in poimenovan s posebnimi jezikovnimi sredstvi za njegove dele, urbanonimi. Urbanonimi so prostorski podatkovni nizi, tvorijo mrežo imen objektov in vzpostavljajo nanosniški prostorski sestav. Delujejo kot mikrotoponimi za množico istovrstnih fizičnih neživih objektov urbanega prostora. Podajajo informacije o njihovi omejitvi (lokalizacijo) in nahajanju (lokaliteto). Mesto je obenem topografski in družbeni prostor, urbanonimi ga odražajo in ga hkrati tudi tvorijo: opravljajo informativno, orientacijsko, simbolno in povezovalno vlogo. Izrazito je delovanje teritorialnosti. Zgradbeno-oblikovno prevladujejo shematizirani dvobesedni urbanonimi.
