The production of hot mixed asphalt (HMA) is a sophisticated process that mostly ensures adequate quality characteristics. There are usually shortcomings everywhere, and one of the main shortcomings in asphalt is that the produced mixture undergoes cooling, and the layer with too low temperature can no longer be thickened. In order to avoid this as much as possible, it is necessary to know the various conditions and their influence on the success of the asphalt layer compaction. The purpose of this article is to: – present the problem of the asphalt layer compaction, – increase the level of understanding of the behaviour of the asphalt layer during compaction, – demonstrate that with an appropriate professional approach and the introduction of measures, a significantly higher efficiency of compaction can be achieved</dc:description><dc:description xml:lang="sl">Človek uporablja asfalt (zmes kamnitih zrn, vezanih z bitumnom) že več kot sedem tisoč let in je eden od najpogosteje uporabljenih gradbenih materialov. Proizvodnja vroče asfaltne zmesi (HMA – hot mixed asphalt) je dovršena proizvodnja, ki večinoma zagotavlja ustrezne kakovostne karakteristike. Običajno povsod najdemo pomanjkljivosti in pri asfaltu je ena glavnih ta, da je proizvedena zmes podvržena ohlajevanju, plasti s prenizko temperaturo pa ni več mogoče zgostiti. Da bi se temu v čim večji možni meri izognili, je treba poznati različne pogoje ter njihove vplive na uspešnost zgoščevanja asfaltne plasti.
