The article's main aim is the identification of the outer limits and related reasonable criteria as needed for the definition of the sustainable development, and critical evaluation of those limits and criteria. With respect of the article's main aim, the second chapter briefly discusses terminological and semantic starting points for the core discussion as followed in the next chapters. In the second chapter, the emphasis is on the difference between the sustainability and sustainable development, while the article's substantive core is consisted of chapters three, four and five. In those chapters the author explains main milestones of the legal definition of sustainable development at the level of the UN and more generally, at the level of the international community. This is followed by the selected questions related to the definition of the sustainable development in the EU law as well as in the Slovenian law. The last chapter contains fundamental findings and theses; the emphasis is on the difference between the anthropocentric and eco-centric definition of the sustainable development. The author clearly favours the eco-centric definition of the sustainable development, but at the same time he makes clear that the situation is rather different in the laws of UN, EU and Slovenia where the anthropocentric definition is predominant. This is so in spite of the fact that, according to the author, the anthropocentric definition and more generally, the anthropocentric approach to the sustainable development is not able to preserve the natural foundations for life"},{"@xml:lang":"sl","#text":"Avtor v prispevku obravnava trajnostni razvoj kot pravni pojem. Temeljni cilj prispevka je identifikacija zunanjih mej in s tem povezanih razumnih meril oziroma kriterijev za določanje vsebine trajnostnega razvoja kot pravnega pojma ter kritično vrednotenje teh mej in meril oziroma kriterijev. Glede na to so v drugem poglavju najprej na kratko predstavljena terminološko-semantična izhodišča, pri čemer je poudarek na razliki med trajnostnostjo in trajnostnim razvojem, jedro prispevka pa tvorijo tretje, četrto in peto poglavje. V teh poglavjih avtor pojasni glavne razvojne mejnike pravne opredelitve trajnostnega razvoja na ravni OZN oziroma na splošno na ravni mednarodne skupnosti. Sledijo izbrana vprašanja, povezana s pojmovno opredelitvijo trajnostnega razvoja v pravu EU in nato še v slovenskem pravu. V šestem poglavju so predstavljene temeljne ugotovitve in teze, pri čemer je poudarek na razlikovanju med antropocentrično in ekocentrično opredelitvijo trajnostnega razvoja.
