To lahko dosežemo z vstavljanjem genov v somatske ali zarodne celice, v in vivo ali ex vivo pogojih. Pozitivne rezultate že lahko opazujemo v mnogih kliničnih poskusih zdravljenja avtoimunskih bolezni, kot sta multipla skleroza in revmatoidni artritis.
