Na srednji napetosti je napetostni nivo 10 kV prisoten samo še v večjih mestih (Ljubljana, Maribor), večji problem predstavlja opustitev 220 kV napetostnega nivoja v prenosnem omrežju. Snovalci razmišljajo o ohranitvi tras 220 kV daljnovodov in prehod na 400 kV. Na videz najbolj preprosta rešitev je postavitev novih nadzemnih vodov, kar pa zahteva mnogo sredstev in nova soglasja.
