Protective antioxidant activity of medicinal mushrooms was also discovered and some of them may play an important role in the therapy of diabetes type II"},{"@xml:lang":"sl","#text":"Medicinske gobe so se v preteklosti uporabljale kot prvotna zdravila predvsem v Aziji, v zadnjih nekaj letih pa se je v Evropi in Združenih državah Amerike znatno razširila uporaba izvlečkov medicinskih gob, predvsem v obliki prehranskih dopolnil. Ocena tržišča z medicinskimi gobami v letu 2009 se giblje v razvitem svetu okoli 4 milijarde dolarjev. Najpomembnejša skupina učinkovin v skorajda vseh gobah iz razreda prostotrosnic, ki izkazujejo farmakološke učinke, so ?-glukanski polisaharidi.
