The consequences of distrust of expert risk estimation are clearly seen in the unsuccessful efforts for locating refuse dumps for lowly and highly radioactive waste. The recent trends in estimating new technologies broaden the criteria in order to take into account social values which influence public opinion regarding the technologies. In Western countries, a variety of democratic communicative forms to achieve public consensus regarding the risk technologies, is considered. Slovenia is in this context far behind"},{"@xml:lang":"sl","#text":"Povzetek. Komunikacije z javnostjo o tveganjih so učinkovitejše, če potekajo v kontekstu zaupanja. Posledice nezaupanja v strokovne ocene tveganja se lepo kažejo v neuspelih prizadevanjih za določitev lokacij za odlagališča nizko in srednje nizkoradioaktivnih odpadkov. Predstavljeni so štirje pristopi k obvladovanju in javni sprejemljivosti tveganja. Novejše usmeritve v ocenjevanju novih tehnologij razširjajo kriterije, da bi se s tem upoštevalo družbene vrednote, ki vplivajo na odnos javnosti do tehnologij. V zahodnih demokracijah se prakticirajo najrazličnejše demokratične komunikativne forme, da bi se v javnosti doseglo soglasje glede sprejemljivosti ali nesprejemljivosti rizičnih tehnologij.
