The countries in the Balkans have a long history of ethnic fragmentation so it is no surprise that its ethnic groups are often stereotyped based on Western perceptions of the Balkans and the relationship between oppressors and the oppressed, which led to the development of stereotypes. The theoretical framework of stereotypes and prejudices and research on these topics show that stereotypes in former Yugoslavia have developed in relation to socio-political circumstances and that the stereotypes have been used for a long time, even after the potential reasons for their initial application ceased to exist"},{"@xml:lang":"sl","#text":"Članek se osredotoča na nacionalne stereotipe na območju nekdanje Jugoslavije, ki jih pripadniki neke etnične skupnosti uporabljajo za pripadnike drugih etničnih skupnosti. Države na Balkanu imajo dolgo zgodovino etnične fragmentacije, zato ne preseneča, da so etnične skupnosti na tem območju pogosto stereotipizirane na podlagi tega, kako Balkan dojemajo na Zahodu, ter odnosa med zatiralci in zatiranimi, kar vodi k razvoju različnih stereotipov. Teoretski okvir stereotipov in predsodkov ter raziskave tega področja kažejo, da so se stereotipi na območju nekdanje Jugoslavije razvili v odvisnosti od aktualnih družbeno-političnih okoliščin.
