In the power engineering, there has been a steady increase in the use of cable systems for the electric power transmission, where the proper dimensioning of such systems is essential to ensure their reliable and efficient operation. Although several dedicated software solutions for cable dimensioning are available on the market, most do not offer a direct integration with the BIM tools. The paper investigates the possibility of linking a BIM model of a high-voltage cable system with a program developed in the FreeFEM environment, an open-source software tool for numerical solving thermal states using the finite-element method. The connection between the BIM model and FreeFEM systems is enabled using the Python programming language that employs the open-source IfcOpenShell library. Thermal analysis of the cable system was compared with the results of dedicated commercial cable dimensioning program. The final part of our paper presents a practical case study of selecting an appropriate power cable based on a real-world engineering example. Using a custom-developed interface, the BIM model can be effectively integrated or linked with any specialized program for calculating the cable thermal states. Our analysis of the impact of various factors on the power cable installation confirm that the obtained results are highly comparable to those generated by dedicated software tools, thereby validating the accuracy and applicability of our approach</dc:description><dc:description xml:lang="sl">Z naraščajočo potrebo po uporabi digitalnih pristopov pri načrtovanju in vodenju projektov se v zadnjem desetletju vse bolj uveljavlja informacijsko modeliranje gradenj, tudi v elektroenergetiki. Analiza vpliva različnih dejavnikov na polaganje energetskih kablov je pokazala, da so dobljeni rezultati dobro primerljivi z rezultati namenskih programskih orodij, kar potrjuje ustreznost in uporabnost razvitega pristopa</dc:description><edm:type>TEXT</edm:type><dc:type xml:lang="sl">znanstveno časopisje</dc:type><dc:type xml:lang="en">journals</dc:type><dc:type rdf:resource="http://www.wikidata.org/entity/Q361785" /></edm:ProvidedCHO><ore:Aggregation rdf:about="http://www.dlib.si/?URN=URN:NBN:SI:doc-NHY6JTZH"><edm:aggregatedCHO rdf:resource="URN:NBN:SI:doc-NHY6JTZH" /><edm:isShownBy rdf:resource="http://www.dlib.si/stream/URN:NBN:SI:doc-NHY6JTZH/fcf45348-c4ae-49e6-8ed7-905380dfa0b3/PDF" /><edm:rights rdf:resource="http://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/" /><edm:provider>Slovenian National E-content Aggregator</edm:provider><edm:intermediateProvider xml:lang="en">National and University Library of Slovenia</edm:intermediateProvider><edm:dataProvider xml:lang="sl">Elektrotehniška zveza Slovenije</edm:dataProvider><edm:object rdf:resource="http://www.dlib.si/streamdb/URN:NBN:SI:doc-NHY6JTZH/maxi/edm" /><edm:isShownAt rdf:resource="http://www.dlib.si/details/URN:NBN:SI:doc-NHY6JTZH" /></ore:Aggregation></rdf:RDF>
