Using the case of simplified energy balance of the Earth foreseen consequences of possible changes in insolation, Earth's albedo, and absorptivity/emissivity of the atmosphere for infrared radiation are considered. Milanković's orbital cycles and ice ages appearances are well correlated with isotopic structure of the ice in deep cores, enabling researchers to speculate on the climate over the last 400,000 years. Na primeru preproste energijske bilance Zemlje kot celote so obravnavane možne posledice ob morebitnem drugačnem dotoku energije s Sonca, drugačni odbojnosti Zemlje za sončno sevanje ali drugačni absorptivnosti/emisivnosti ozračja za infrardeče sevanje. Astronomski vzroki za spreminjanje podnebja po Milankoviću in z njimi povezana periodična ponavljanja ledenih dob se dobro skladajo z izotopsko sestavo ledu v globokih vrtinah, kar omogoča oceno podnebja za zadnjih 400.000 let.
