He recognized the problem of language as a medium of cultural maturing; the need for religious affiliation and the individual's willingness to engage actively in religious education and ceremonial, even at the cost of persecution. He pointed out how Slovenes lagged behind compared with other European nations, as without God's Word in their own language they were even more subject to oppression. He saw the solution in raising his nation in religious and cultural terms. In his dedications he informed foreign and native addressees of his endeavours to raise people on the cultural level - with books and through these to advance the individual's religions development, which for himas a preacher was his fundamental mission.
