The older employees will, in the future, represent one of the predominant employee groups. Since there will be no younger employees, the organisations will have to think about measures, necessary to increase the employment of the older workers and to enable work conditions for the older employees to work longer and for them to want to extend their work activity. The purpose of the article is to warn of the issue and consequences of aging of the employees at the Ljubljana City Library, provide an assessment of conditions for the older employees, as well as give possible suggestions, recommendations and measures for the management of the issue of employee aging. The review of conditions was carried out based on theoretical foundations and the study of actual state and activities, which are already carried out at the library in regards to the management of older employees. The goal of the article is to promote awareness and discussion about the stated thematic and to encourage the management of the library and the human resource department to a more proactive operation in the field of older employee management at the library. From the article we can see, that the Ljubljana City Library is currently insufficiently aware of the demographic trends and the issue of employee aging, seeking solutions and planning actual, factual measures from the field of older employee management. Even small changes in favour of older employees, such as adjusted work times, target motivation and education, target adjustment of work and investment into health promotion, would provide the older workers with a work environment, where they would feel good, achieve better results, and remain healthy, active and motivated</dc:description><dc:description xml:lang="sl">Prebivalstvo se stara, s staranjem prebivalstva pa se stara tudi delovna sila. Starejši zaposleni bodo v prihodnje predstavljali eno od prevladujočih skupin zaposlenih. Ker mlajših zaposlenih ne bo, bodo organizacije morale razmisliti o potrebnih ukrepih za dvig zaposlenosti starejših delavcev ter omogočiti delovne pogoje, da bodo starejši zaposleni lahko delali dlje in si želeli podaljšati svojo delovno aktivnost. Namen prispevka je opozoriti na problem in posledice staranja zaposlenih v Mestni knjižnici Ljubljana, podati oceno stanja starejših zaposlenih ter prikazati možne predloge, priporočila in ukrepe za obvladovanje problematike staranja zaposlenih. Pregled stanja je bil izveden na osnovi teoretičnih izhodišč ter proučitve dejanskega stanja in aktivnosti, ki se v okviru upravljanja s starejšimi zaposlenimi že izvajajo v knjižnici. Cilj prispevka je spodbuditev zavedanja in razprave o navedeni tematiki ter spodbuditev vodstva knjižnice in kadrovske službe k bolj proaktivnemu delovanju na področju upravljanja s starejšimi zaposlenimi v knjižnici. Iz prispevka je razvidno, da se v Mestni knjižnici Ljubljana trenutno še premalo zavedamo demografskih trendov in problematike staranja zaposlenih, iskanja rešitev in strateškega načrtovanja konkretnih ukrepov s področja upravljanja s starejšimi zaposlenimi.
