However, PET remains constraint by factors including low signalto-noise ratio, long imaging times, and concerns about radiation dose. By increasing the geometric coverage to cover the entire body, sensitivity can be increased by factor of about 40 fot total-body or a factor of about 4-5 for imaging a single organ. World's first total-body PET/CT scanner is currently under construction</dc:description><dc:description xml:lang="sl">PET slikanje trenutno velja za najbolj občutljivo tehniko za neinvazivno preučevanje fiziologije, metabolizma in potovanja snovi po človeškem telesu. Vseeno pa ima PET sistem kar nekaj slabih lastnosti, kot so nizko razmerje signala proti šumu, dolgi časi slikanja in precej velike doze za paciente. Če povečamo geometrijsko pokritost, na način, da hkrati slikamo celotno telo, se efektivna občutljivost sistema poveča za 40-krat pri slikanju celotnega telesa ter za 4-5-krat pri slikanju posameznega organa. Prvi tak sistem, imenovan total-body PET/CT, je trenutno v izgradnji.
