Since the species is closely linked to humans, a special relationship has developed as well as changed throughout history, which is in particularly well documented in cultural heritage. Different historical sources have therefore been taken intoaccount, from paleoornithological and ornithoarcheological finds artistic depictions and heraldic symbols to scientific dissertations on the species. Different sources have been interpreted in order to present biological aspectsof the species in terms of its populations and ecological changes through different time periods. The Common raven''s present situation and population status were assessed in a special study in which its authors estimated the species'' new population size for Slovenia by considering the breeding and non-breeding parts of its population. In the historical sources analysis, the authors focused on the following aspects: (1) occurrence and status of the species, (2) habitat characteristics (breeding, wintering), (3) diet, and (4) interaction with humansV delu je predstavljena zgodovinska analiza pojavljanja krokarja Corvus corax v Sloveniji in bližnji okolici od pleistocena do danes, kar zajema obdobje od pred 1,64 milijona let do 21. stoletja. Ker gre za vrsto, ki lahko živi v neposredni človekovi bližini, se je med krokarjem in človekom razvil poseben odnos, ki se je skozi čas z razvojem človeške družbe drastično spreminjal, karse posebej očitno odraža v kulturni dediščini. Zato so v delu obravnavani različni zgodovinski viri od paleoornitoloških in ornitoarheoloških najdb, likovnih upodobitev, heraldike do znanstvenih in strokovnih razprav, ki so v okviru biološke razlage povezani v opis populacijskih in ekoloških sprememb vrste skozi čas. Zdajšnje razmere in populacijsko stanje vrste je bilo raziskano v posebni raziskavi, ki podaja novo oceno števila krokarjev v Sloveniji ločeno glede na gnezdeči in negnezdeči del populacije.
