We randomly divided forty children with a fear of water (aged 10-11 years) into a group that used goggles and snorkels and a group that did not use these aids during the learn-to-swim program. The majority of participants improved their aquatic skills as a result of the learn-to-swim intervention. The comparisons of the in- tervention effects between the groups showed that the learning improvement in water entry, back gliding, and prone swimming scores were bigger in OD group than in ne-OD group. At the contrary, the intervention effect was lower in the blowing bubbles scores in OD group than in ne-OD group. The results of present study highlight the positive and negative effects of the usage of goggles and snorkels in learn-to-swim programs</dc:description><dc:description xml:lang="sl">Cilj raziskave je bil ugotoviti učinke uporabe plavalnih očal in dihalke med začetnim učenjem plavanja na prilagojenost na vodo ter na znanje in sposobnosti plavanja začetnikov z izrazitim strahom pred vodo. 40 otrok, starih od 10 do 11 let, z izrazitim strahom pred vodo smo razdelili v dve skupini: v prvi so se učili plavati s plavalnimi očali in dihalko (skupina OD), v drugi pa teh dveh pripomočkov pri učenju niso uporabljali (skupina ne-OD). Večina preiskovancev je, ne glede na (ne)uporabo plavalnih očal in dihalke, z učenjem napredovala v prilagojenosti na vodo ter v znanju in sposobnostih plavanja. Izrazitejši učinek uporabe plavalnih očal in dihalke med učenjem se je pojavil pri štirih testih. Učni napredek je bil namreč pri testih vstopa v vodo, drsenja v hrbtnem in plavanja v prsnem položaju pri skupini OD večji, pri testu pihanja mehurčkov pa manjši kakor pri skupini ne-OD.
