Regular movement during the adolescence creates a strong foundation for a healthy lifestyle in later adult life. The aim of our study was to determine the characteristics and motives for physical activity in students enrolled in three different study areas, and to compare them with the recommendations of the World Health Organisation. The data were collected with close-ended survey on the sample consisted of 180 students. With physical activity regularly engage 50.0 % of students in the natural sciences, 63.3 % of students in the social sciences and 51,7 % of students in health sciences (p = 0,431). In a very intense form of physical activity are engaged more students of natural and social sciences (p = 0,022) with a priority motives of challenge and enjoyment, while students in health sciences prefer moderate activities and they positive effects on health. Physical activity is one of the important values among students irrespective of the area of study. It would be necessary to systematically monitor physical activity of students throughout the study period, to learn about their behavioral style, and in the case of declining, react with interventions</dc:description><dc:description xml:lang="sl">Gibalna aktivnost v vseh življenjskih obdobjih je pomembna za preprečevanje kroničnih bolezni in za boljše psihosocialno zdravje. Redno gibanje v mladosti omogoča postavitev trdnih temeljev zdravega življenjskega sloga v odraslosti. Namen naše raziskave je bil ugotoviti značilnosti in motive za gibalno aktivnost študentov s treh različnih področij študija ter jih primerjati s priporočili Svetovne zdravstvene organizacije. Podatke smo zbrali z vprašalnikom zaprtega tipa na vzorcu 180 študentov. Z gibalno aktivnostjo se redno ukvarja 50,0 % študentov naravoslovja, 63,3 % študentov družboslovja in 51,7 % študentov zdravstva (p = 0,431). V visoko intenzivno vadbo je vključenih več študentov naravoslovja in družboslovja (p = 0,022). Ti so na prvo mesto med motivi uvrstili izziv in uživanje v gibanju, medtem ko študentom zdravstva več pomeni zmerno intenzivna vadba in njeni pozitivni učinki na zdravje. Gibalna aktivnost spada med pomembne vrednote študentov ne glede na smer študija.
