Strateško marketinško načrtovanje se prične z analiziranjem poslanstva, smernic in ciljev knjižnice ter oblikovanjem marketinško naravnane korporacijske kulture. S pomočjo sistematične analize javnosti, konkurence in makrookolja bi morala vsaka knjižnica preučiti zunanje okolje, ki predstavlja zanjo priložnosti in grožnje.
