Današnje meje katastrskih občin so meje nekdanjih posesti povzele in se večinoma ohranile nespremenjene. Mogoče zgodovinarjem in arheologom bolj poznano kot nam geodetom je dejstvo, da meje katastrskih občin ponekod potekajo tudi po rimskih ostalinah, saj so bile nekatere v prostoru nekoč enostavno določljiv mejni element. Namen tega sestavka ni podati popisa vseh mej katastrskih občin, ki potekajo po rimskih ostalinah, ampak le nekaj zanimivih primerov, ki bodo mogoče koga spodbudili, da se bo lotil bolj sistematične geodetske raziskave na to temoFor centuries, property boundaries have been defined by topographically easily identifiable features such as streams, drystone fences, hillsides, paths, or even ruins. Today's cadastral municipality boundaries have taken the boundaries of the former properties and have remained largely unchanged. Perhaps more familiar to historians and archaeologists than to us geodesists is the fact that the boundaries of the cadastral municipality can be in some places linked to Roman remains, some of which were once easily identifiable boundary features in space.
