Based on documents preserved in the National Archives of Romania, the article analyses the strategies used to launch this major cultural project in the historical context of the United Principalities of Moldavia and Wallachia. It examines the museum’s mission, as it was crystallizing in the 1860s, the ways that the public art collection was established, and several types of activities that contributed to the organization of the art gallery during its early years of existenceV študiji so raziskani začetki umetnostnega muzeja v Ia?iju, prve javne umetnostne galerije na romunskem ozemlju. V članku so na podlagi dokumentov, ki jih hranijo v Romunskem državnem arhivu, analizirane strategije, uporabljene za zagon tega pomembnega kulturnega projekta v zgodovinskem kontekstu Združenih kneževin Moldavije in Vlaške.
