Surgical or/and irradiation treatment changes the anatomical and physiological situation in a patient's upper digestive and respiratory tract, which causes feeding and speech disorders and consequently influences the patient's social life. The tissue defect after surgical treatment, scarring, changes in sensory and motor supply are the causes of altered position, mobility and pliability of organs taking part in chewing, swallowing, phonation and articulation. In the rehabilitation of the disordered functions, a group of various professionals tries to find suitable compensatory motor patterns on the basis of the patient's remaining abilities.
