At the frequencies of sound where coincidence occurs, the sound insulation of the barrier is redu- ced, most notably at the lowest coincidence frequency, where the sound propagates parallel to the barrier. In order to achieve better sound insulation of the barrier, it is therefore necessary to ensure that the critical frequency of the barrier is outside the relevant frequency range. This can be achieved by choosing an appropriate material and the thickness of the barrier. For more massive barriers, this is below the relevant frequency range, and for lighter barriers, above the relevant frequency range. If the position of the critical frequency in the relevant frequency range cannot be avoided, the internal damping of the barrier must be increased in order to reduce the resonant response at the coincidence, which is effective only for lighter and less rigid barriers"},{"@xml:lang":"sl","#text":"Če je hitrost zvočnega valovanja, vpadlega na pregrado, enaka hitrosti povzročenega upogibnega valovanja v pregradi, govorimo o koincidenčnem efektu. Pri frekvencah zvoka, kjer nastopi koincidenca, se zvočna izolativnost pregrade zmanjša, in sicer naj- bolj pri najnižji koincidenčni frekvenci, kjer potuje zvok v smeri vzporedno s pregrado. Za doseganje boljše zvočne izolativnosti pregrade je zato treba pri izbiri materiala in debeline pregrade zagotoviti, da je kritična frekvenca pregrade izven merodajnega frekvenčnega območja. Pri masivnejših pregradah je to pod merodajnim frekvenčnim območjem, pri lažjih pregradah pa nad merodajnim frekvenčnim območjem.
