This idea was truly revolutionary and brought about a democratic advancement by terminating apparent discrimination against servants. However, the reaction after the 9th Thermidor (the fall of Robespierre) loathed this idea of egalitarianism and made a short end of it. The domestic servants had to stay for a long time outside the public life and remained confined to the private sphere where they were subjected to a kind of capitis diminutio. Termidorska reakcija po smrti Robespierra ni bila naklonjena tej enakosti in jo je hitro odpravila. Služabniki so morali še dolgo ostati zunaj javnega življenja in zaprti v zasebno sfero, kjer so bili žrtve določene vrste capitis deminutio.
