The quasiresonant amplification of planetary waves theory is summarized and its role in recent extreme weather events is explained, as described by Petoukhov et al. It is a possible dynamical mechanism of stationary waves amplification, which could result in more frequent weather extremes in mid-latitudes</dc:description><dc:description xml:lang="sl">V članku so predstavljene osnove atmosferskih gibanj na velikih skalah, natančneje Rossbyjevi valovi v zmernih zemljepisnih širinah in njihovo razširjanje. Povzeta je teorija kvaziresonance Rossbyjevih valov, v povezavi z ekstremnimi vremenskimi dogodki v zadnjih desetletjih, ki so jo razvili Petoukhov in sodelavci.
