V uvodnih poglavjih podaja razlago osnovnih konceptov ekonomskega področja trženja, sledi prikaz značilnosti elektronskih informacij, ki bistveno vplivajo na strategije trženja, uporabne za tovrstne izdelke oziroma storitve. Prikazu kompleksnosti cenovne politike elektronskih informacij sledi opis dejavnosti organizacij, ki se ukvarjajo z elektronskimi informacijami. Zaradi sistematičnosti je uporabljena delitev na proizvajalce elektronskih informacij (graditelje podatkovnih zbirk, elektronske založnike) in posrednike elektronskih informacij (online gostitelje, knjižnice in informacijske centre).
