One of the most important consequences of both acts was the possibility of merging smaller municipalities into bigger ones. The Maribor municipality had a chance to incorporate smaller neighbouring municipalities and therefore enlarge its territory and increase the number of residents. The article discusses the attempts and struggles of the Maribor municipality and (successful) resistance of the surrounding municipalities"},{"@xml:lang":"sl","#text":"Interesi za priključitev sosednjih občin k Mestni občini Maribor so med obema vojnama ob novo sprejetih Zakonu o občinah in Zakonu o mestnih občinah dobili nov zagon. Pomembna posledica obeh zakonov o občinah je bila komasacija oz. združevanje manjših občin v večje. Mariborska mestna občina je z omenjenima zakonoma dobila priložnost razširiti svoje ozemlje ter povečati število prebivalcev na račun priključitve manjših sosednjih občin. Močno si je prizadevala za uresničitev ideje o velikem Mariboru, ki bi s priključitvijo sosednjih občin lahko štel več kot 50.000 prebivalcev. Ob tem prizadevanju pa je naletela na precejšen odpor sosednjih občin, ki so spojitev z mestom odklanjale, čeprav so bile z mestom povezane na več bistvenih področjih delovanja. Prispevek obravnava napore mariborskih mestnih svetnikov po priključitvi sosednjih občin in njihova (uspešna) prizadevanja, da se to ne bi zgodilo. Maribor je bil po sprejetju Zakona o mestnih občinah edina mestna občina, ki si ni mogla priključiti sosednjih občin in ustvariti novih predmestij.
