The article seeks to define where these rules diverge from their outmoded counterparts, and, more broadly, to answer the question: What has happened to the rules regulating the relationships between the sexes today, at a time when the majority no longer believes in the father's (man's) authority? How have men's or women's attitudes to them been affected? In this context, the rules discussed are examined from the viewpoint of (a critique of) Foucault and of Lacanian psychoanalysisVplivne knjige za samopomoč z naslovom The Rules, od katerih je prva izšla sredi 90. let 20. stoletja v ZDA, prinašajo pravila z osnovno premiso, da je moški subjekt, ženska pa subjekt, ki je objekt za moškega. Članek poskuša opredeliti, v čem se ta pravila vendarle razlikujejo od staromodnih pravil iz preteklosti in kaj se je zgodilo s pravili omike in olike, ki urejajo odnose med spoloma, danes, v času, ko večina ne verjame očetovi avtoriteti (avtoriteti moškega), oz. kaj se je zgodilo z odnosom moškega oz. ženske do teh pravil.
