Each has been the subject of reflection, as each offers the possibility of various implications. Visual perception and the gaze create a sense of the world, though both myth and religion have been critical of visual imitating of reality and have denied the gaze a perceptual role. Did Odysseus, on his sea journey, see the alluring and dangerous Sirens, or did he in fact only hear them? This paper seeks to demonstrate some fundamental dilemmas offered by Homer's myth of the Sirens and its many modified versions. A critical assessment of the gaze and its magical powers is also offered in the myth of Perseus and the Gorgon Medusa, whose gaze enchants the viewer, as if he were petrified. It was precisely this that Odysseus feared when he descended into the underworld. But if access to the truth of consciousness and the world of lies is easier and more suitably put into practice through words and hearing, why are the Sirens dangerous and why must they lose in their competition with the Muses? What do they enchant with the gaze?"},{"@xml:lang":"sl","#text":"Prispevek obravnava dve temeljni obliki človekove čutne zaznave, pogled in sluh. Obe sta od nekdaj predmet razmisleka, saj ponujata možnost različnih implikacij. Vizualna zaznava in pogled ustvarjata občutek sveta, vendar sta bila tako mit kakor religija do vizualnega posnemanja resničnosti kritična in mu odrekala spoznavno vlogo. Je Odisej na morski poti očarljive in nevarne sirene videl ali jih je v resnici zgolj slišal? Referat skuša prikazati nekaj temeljnih dilem, ki jih ponuja Homerjev mit o sirenah ter njegove številne predelave. Kritično oceno pogleda in njegove magične moči podaja tudi mit o Perzeju in meduzi Gorgoni, ki s svojim pogledom opazovalca začara, kakor bi okamnel. Prav tega se je Odisej bal, ko je sestopil v podzemlje. A če je dostop do resnice zavesti in sveta lažje in primerneje udejanjiti z besedo in prek sluha, zakaj so sirene nevarne in zakaj morajo v tekmi z Muzami izgubiti? Ker čarajo in začarajo tudi s pogledom?"}],"edm:type":"TEXT","dc:type":[{"@xml:lang":"sl","#text":"znanstveno časopisje"},{"@xml:lang":"en","#text":"journals"},{"@rdf:resource":"http://www.wikidata.org/entity/Q361785"}]},"ore:Aggregation":{"@rdf:about":"http://www.dlib.si/?URN=URN:NBN:SI:doc-J4F3C6FL","edm:aggregatedCHO":{"@rdf:resource":"URN:NBN:SI:doc-J4F3C6FL"},"edm:isShownBy":{"@rdf:resource":"http://www.dlib.si/stream/URN:NBN:SI:doc-J4F3C6FL/bdcc8c06-bf36-458a-85b3-54cfb11d2394/PDF"},"edm:rights":{"@rdf:resource":"http://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"},"edm:provider":"Slovenian National E-content Aggregator","edm:intermediateProvider":{"@xml:lang":"en","#text":"National and University Library of Slovenia"},"edm:dataProvider":{"@xml:lang":"sl","#text":"Znanstvena založba Filozofske fakultete"},"edm:object":{"@rdf:resource":"http://www.dlib.si/streamdb/URN:NBN:SI:doc-J4F3C6FL/maxi/edm"},"edm:isShownAt":{"@rdf:resource":"http://www.dlib.si/details/URN:NBN:SI:doc-J4F3C6FL"}}}}
