Recent empirical research shows that trade among the members of the EMU has grown on average by 10-15% due to the use of a common currency, and there has also been an increase in trade with non-member states. The trade benefits of the entry of new countries into the EMU will thus not be the same as the benefits of the initial formation of the EMU in the nineties. This claim has been tested on the example of SloveniaGlavni namen članka je predstaviti temeljne ugotovitve dosedanjih raziskav na področju vpliva uvedbe evra na trgovino držav Gospodarske in denarne unije (GDU). Pretekle študije pokažejo, da se je trgovina med članicami GDU zaradi uporabe skupne valute v povprečju povečala za 10-15 %, poleg tega pa so države GDU povečale svoje trgovanje tudi z nečlanicami. Trgovinske koristi vstopa novih držav članic EU v GDU tako ne bodo enake koristim prvotne formacije GDU v devetdesetih letih.
