The forming of the new Yugoslav state and the loss of one-third of Slovenian territory caused the downfall of gymnasts' and athletes' independent organising outside the home country. Conversely, physical culture in the home country bloomed after the South Slavic nations gained independence. In the same year that is considered a landmark in Slovenian sport in terms of umbrella organisations in the home country, there was an arson attack on the National Hall in Trieste, the Slovenian minority's cultural centre which also featured a gym used by the Trieste Sokol sports society. However, it did not stop there; attacks on other gyms in the Trieste territory followed, after which Sokol had to abandon its name and gradually restrict its activities to sport which, given the period of history, should be understood in its narrowest meaning. The emphasis was on football, track and field, cycling and women's hazenaKonec prve svetovne vojne je prinesel narodno emancipacijo, a hkrati usodno zarezal v slovensko narodno telo. Formiranje nove jugoslovanske države in izguba tretjine slovenskih ozemelj, so pomenila za telovadce in športnike izven matice kmalu zaton samostojnega organiziranja, nasprotno pa je telesnokulturno življenje v matici ob južnoslovanski narodni osamosvojitvi doživljalo razmah. V istem letu, ki ga slovenski šport obeležuje kot mejnik v krovnem organiziranju, je v Trstu zagorel Narodni dom, v katerem je bila tudi telovadnica Tržaškega Sokola. A ni se zaustavilo pri tem, sledili so napadi tudi na druge telovadnice na Tržaškem, Sokol pa je moral opustiti ime in dejavnost, ki se je vse bolj prenašala na šport, ki ga moramo v tem primeru razumeti primerno času v ožjem pomenu.
