Contemporaries called his law firm a “fortress of liberalism”. Because Ivan Tavčar stood for economic, religious, political, and ideological freedom of the individual. He stood for fundamental ideas such as the constitution, liberal democracy, free and fair elections, human rights, and freedom of religion. He stood for the equality of all people, for equality before the law and for the autonomy of nations. The title of the academy, at which the author presented this text as a speaker, is therefore somewhat appropriate: “Let’s look up to Tavčar!”"},{"@xml:lang":"sl","#text":"Vsi poznamo dr. Ivana Tavčarja kot pisatelja, mnogi kot politika, toda le redki kot odvetnika, čeprav je bil vse življenje odvetnik in se ni nikoli upokojil. Sodobniki so njegovo odvetniško pisarno imenovali »trdnjava liberalizma«. Dr. Ivan Tavčar se je namreč zavzemal za ekonomsko, versko, politično in nazorsko svobodo posameznika. Zavzemal se je za temeljne ideje, kot so ustava, liberalna demokracija, svobodne in pravične volitve, človekove pravice in svoboda veroizpovedi. Zavzemal se je za enakopravnost vseh ljudi, za enakost pred zakonom in za avtonomijo narodov.
