On the other hand, the victorious in such conflicts almost without exception tried to depict their successes as an important contribution to the spread of Roman influence. Octavian was the most successful in shaping of his own historical image, although already Sulla tried to influence it. Of course, in the Roman case there was neither a change of the ruling elite nor any major revolutionary upheaval"},{"@xml:lang":"sl","#text":"Kljub omejitvam obstajajo osupljive strukturne podobnosti v soočanju s fenomenom državljanskega spopada ali kar državljanske vojne med Rimom 2. ali 1. stoletja pr. Kr. in slovenskim prostorom v 20. stoletju, tako kar zadeva akterje samega nasilnega dogajanja kot javnost v najširšem smislu. Usoda premagancev doseže svojo za državljanske vojne rimske republike najznačilnejšo obliko s proskripcijami, z anatemiziranjem potomcev političnih nasprotnikov vred. Zmagovalci v teh vojnah v pozni republiki so si skoraj brez izjeme prizadevali prikazovati svoje tovrstne uspehe kot pomemben prispevek k širjenju rimskega vpliva navzven. Oktavijan je bil najuspešnejši pri loščenju lastne zgodovinske podobe. Pri tem mu je za zgled sicer lahko služil adoptivni oče Cezar, svoje videnje dogodkov pa je želel potomstvu predstaviti že Sula.
