At the same time, we are also facing changes in other factors, especially significant changes in time- -dependent loads and new patterns in turbine operation manoeuvres, with multiple starts and stops on a daily basis. These changes can lead to a decrease in structural and operational safety of dams. Dams are built to serve for a long time and require safe and reliable operation. They also play an important role in society, as they bring numerous benefits, i.e., in addition to electrical generation, also water storage, irrigation, flood control. However, in the event of their technical or structural failure (partial or total), they pose a threat to downstream areas. The ageing of dams, the preservation of their functionality and the preservation of structural health are currently the greatest challenges in dam engineering in Slovenia and abroad. This article presents a novel methodology to monitor structural health of concrete dams using the noncontact and contact measurements of ambient vibrations in combination with computational structural analysis. We present the in-situ experiment at Brežice dam initiated already during the construction and continued into the first year of operation</dc:description><dc:description xml:lang="sl">V Sloveniji se vse bolj soočamo s problemom staranja pregradnih objektov, saj povprečna starost slovenskih pregrad že presega 40 let. Eksperimentalno delo smo izvajali na pregradi Brežice, ki smo jo pričeli spremljati že med gradnjo in v prvem letu obratovanja</dc:description><edm:type>TEXT</edm:type><dc:type xml:lang="sl">znanstveno časopisje</dc:type><dc:type xml:lang="en">journals</dc:type><dc:type rdf:resource="http://www.wikidata.org/entity/Q361785" /></edm:ProvidedCHO><ore:Aggregation rdf:about="http://www.dlib.si/?URN=URN:NBN:SI:doc-HFOLIGY3"><edm:aggregatedCHO rdf:resource="URN:NBN:SI:doc-HFOLIGY3" /><edm:isShownBy rdf:resource="http://www.dlib.si/stream/URN:NBN:SI:doc-HFOLIGY3/dabfc159-3b71-44bb-9273-ece39bae4954/PDF" /><edm:rights rdf:resource="http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc-sa/4.0/" /><edm:provider>Slovenian National E-content Aggregator</edm:provider><edm:intermediateProvider xml:lang="en">National and University Library of Slovenia</edm:intermediateProvider><edm:dataProvider xml:lang="sl">Zveza društev gradbenih inženirjev in tehnikov Slovenije</edm:dataProvider><edm:object rdf:resource="http://www.dlib.si/streamdb/URN:NBN:SI:doc-HFOLIGY3/maxi/edm" /><edm:isShownAt rdf:resource="http://www.dlib.si/details/URN:NBN:SI:doc-HFOLIGY3" /></ore:Aggregation></rdf:RDF>
