V neposrednem stiku z okoljem lahko učenci predmetom in pojavom določijo svoje lastne opisne ali interpretacijske lastnosti in jih kot take doživljajo skladno s svojo notranjostjo. Na ta način pridobijo znanje, izkušnje, vedenjske vzorce in načine ravnanja, ki jim bodo v življenju pomagali sprejemati odločitve in odgovornosti za svoja ravnanja. Izziv šole v naravi je v enakomernem razvijanju vseh ravni inteligence, kar lahko pripomore k spremenjenemu odnosu človeka do narave.
