V času globalizacije pa so festivali, celo če predstavljajo nekaj povsem lokalnega, vsaj potencialno mednarodni dogodek bodisi zaradi izvajalcev bodisi zaradi občinstva ali pa vsaj zaradi zanimanja medijev, ki so vedno na sledi novostim. Očitno je, da so nekateri festivali na vrhu nekakšne hierarhije festivalov in nič ne kaže, da bi svoje privilegirane položaje prepustili drugim mestom. To pa ne pomeni, da tudi druga mesta ne bi mogla imeti dovolj kakovostnih festivalov.
