However, recently a new approach has been introduced termed as carbohydrate periodization that involves performing certain training sessions with reduced muscle glycogen in order to augment training adaptations. Acute studies have shown that training strategy results in enhanced activation of certain enzymes, factors and co-factors that are responsible for mitochondrial biogenesis. However, results of long term training studies do not show unanimous results about effectiveness of such approach on endurance performance. This article summarises evidence for and against use of this approach and provides some recommendations for coaches and athletes"},{"@xml:lang":"sl","#text":"Tradicionalno se je športnikom priporočalo, da ves čas trenirajo z visoko dostopnostjo ogljikovih hidratov, saj jim to omogoča dosego zastavljenega volumna treninga in jim omogoča trening pri visokih intenzivnosti. Nedavno se je pojavil nov pristop, imenovan prehranska periodizacija, ki predvideva, da športnik določene vadbene enote opravi z zmanjšano količino mišičnega glikogena z namenom povečanja adaptacij. Akutne raziskave so pokazale, da tak način treninga poveča aktivacijo določenih encimov, faktorjev in kofaktorjev, ki sodelujejo pri mitohondrijski biogenezi. A rezultati dolgoročnih trenažnih študij ne kažejo enoličnih rezultatov o učinkovitosti takšnega pristopa na športno zmogljivost.
