It has been shown that balance training can be more efficient for muscle groups strengthening than individual muscle exercises. The aim of our research was to examine whether the choice of balance training method has any influence on the overall therapeutic outcome and whether it affects the postural strategy. Methods: Balance training was carried out within the context of a comprehensive therapy of 11 patients with low back pain in 14 consecutive days, 5 times a week. Six patients used the Gamma trainer (including virtual reality games) and five patients used the wobble board for balance training. A device for perturbation at the level of pelvis and assessment of postural responses was applied before and after the treatment. A force plate was used for assessing the centre of gravity. The clinical tests of functional reach was also applied, as well as the test of standing on the left and the right leg. Statistical analysis using 2-way ANOVA was performed to test the therapeutic effects and the difference between the two balance training devices. Results: The improvement of functional reach after balance training was statistically significant (p = 0.022), whereby the mean scores were higher in the Gamma trainer group than in the wobble board group (p = 0.042) while there was no statistically significant difference in mean improvement between the groups (p = 0.126). The mean time of standing on the nondominant leg also improved after the treatment in both groups, though not statistically significantly. Five patients improved their postural responses. Conclusion: Despite the small number of patients involved we may conclude that balance training is important for trunk muscles strengthening in people with low back pain regardless of the choice of the therapeutic device. When selecting a device, the effort of the physiotherapists to ensure repeatability, as well as the abilities and motivation of the patients should be considered"},{"@xml:lang":"sl","#text":"Izhodišča: Bolečina v hrbtenici je pogosto vzrok za spremenjeno delovanje mišic trupa. Izkazalo se je, da vadba ravnotežja bolj učinkovito krepi mišične skupine kot posamične vaje. Cilj raziskave je bil ugotoviti, ali izbira metode za vadbo ravnotežja vpliva na terapevtski učinek in ali vpliva tudi na posturalno strategijo. Metode: Vadbo ravnotežja je v okviru celostne terapije izvajalo 11 pacientov z bolečino v hrbtenici, in sicer 14 dni po 5-krat na teden; 6 pacientov na napravi Gamma, ki vključuje igre, in 5 pacientov na deski wobble. Posturalne odzive pred terapijo in po njej smo izmerili z napravo za generiranje mehanskih motenj in zajem posturalnih odzivov s pritiskovno ploščo. Hkrati smo paciente testirali s kliničnim testom funkcionalnega doseganja ter s testom stoje na levi in desni nogi. Z dvosmerno analizo variance smo statistično testirali terapevtski učinek in vpliv izbire različnih naprav za vadbo ravnotežja. Rezultati: Po vadbi ravnotežja so se statistično značilno izboljšali dosežki pri funkcionalnem testu doseganja (p = 0,022), pri čemer so bili dosežki na splošno boljši v skupini z napravo Gamma kot v skupini z desko wobble (p = 0,042), statistično značilnih razlik v izboljšanju po vadbi pa med skupinama ni bilo (p = 0,126). Pacienti so lahko v povprečju tudi dalj časa stali na nedominantni nogi, a razlika ni bila statistično značilna. Pri petih pacientih so se izboljšali tudi posturalni odzivi. Zaključki: Kljub majhnemu številu vključenih pacientov lahko sklepamo, da je vadba ravnotežja pomembna aktivnost za krepitev mišic trupa pri ljudeh z bolečino v hrbtenici ne glede na izbiro terapevtskega pripomočka.
