Century was at first a bilingual Slovenian-German poet and a fierce supporter of Slovenians and Slavs. After the faithful defection into the German language and cultural-political camp in 1861 - between 1971 and 1974 he was also mayor of Ljubljana - he became one of the most hated intellectuals in Slovenian lands. In this piece we limit ourselves to Dežman's literary creativity and his image in Slovenian literary history after 1861, as it is shown in literary satire and caricature and statements made by Slovenian literary creators. Dežman'is subjected to fierce attacks in literary representations and statements by literary creators. These attacks were frequently also degrading to his undisputed achievements in various expert areas"},{"@xml:lang":"sl","#text":"Dragotin Dežman, eden najbolj razgledanih Slovencev druge polovice 19. stoletja, je bil sprva dvojezični slovensko-nemški pesnik ter goreč zagovornik slovenstva in slovanstva. Po usodnem prestopu v nemški jezikovni in kulturnopolitični tabor leta 1861 - med letoma 1871 in 1874 je bil tudi ljubljanski župan - je postal eden najbolj osovraženih intelektualcev v slovenskem prostoru. V pričujočem prispevku se omejujemo na Dežmanovo literarno ustvarjalnost in njegovo podobo v slovenski literarni zgodovini po letu 1861, kakor se kaže v literarni satiri in karikaturi ali v izjavah slovenskih literatov.
