Traffic accidents are categorized and the leading causes of crashes are presented. The author deals separately with direct and indirect human causes of accidents, i.e. the subject's (non)acting that increases the probability of a crash, and the factors influencing the driver's ability to drive safely. In view of the fact that human factor is the leading cause of crashes, the role of personality traits in road accidents is commented on. Thepaper closes with the discussion of driver tasks, and attempts to provide a theoretical explanation for these tasks"},{"@xml:lang":"sl","#text":"V članku je orisano vprašanje prometne varnosti in vloga človeka kot voznika pri tem. Opredeljene so prometne nezgode in obravnavani glavni dejavniki nastanka nezgod. Posebej so prikazani neposredni in posredni človeški vzroki zanje, tj. (ne)dejanja neposredno pred nezgodo, ki povečujejo verjetnost trka,ter voznikova stanja ali pogoji, ki neugodno vplivajo na njegovo zmožnostza varno vožnjo. Glede na to, da večino nesreč tako ali drugače povzročijo ljudje, je obravnavana tudi vloga osebnostnih dejavnikov v nastankunesreč.
